A simple Xbee based project that monitors a small solar panel and battery pack.

The panel is made by Voltaic Systems it is a 10V / .13A and costs $30. I use the panel to charge 4 AA batteries in series.

Monitoring a lower power solar panel is quite easy. I use a 10 ohm resistor between two A2D ports and monitor the voltage drop. This way I can calculate both voltage and amps. It is rather surprising just how accurate this technique can be. No microcontroller was used in this project just a pair of xbee modules.
